He is one of Britain’s most popular and prolific actors, known for his electrifying performances on stage and screen over seven decades.
But on Sunday, while cooking in his kitchen, Sir Anthony Hopkins showed his lighter side by performing a little rumba in a video shared on his TikTok and Instagram pages.
It stands between the chrome oven and the kitchen island Welsh actor He kicked straight into his animated version, complete with hands and arms at about chest height, while moving his body to his left.
He seemed to be very focused on the rhythm, groove and lyrics of Mambo Italiano, considering that his eyes were closed at times, while the music and his lyrics seemed to wash over him as he danced.
After walking to the music to his left, the two-time Oscar winner, 85, reversed direction as he reached for his oven, then proceeded to dance a few steps to his right, all while appearing to speak some. From the lyrics.
It looks as if Hopkins has set out to prepare and cook an Italian dish, from the looks of some of the ingredients on the kitchen island.
Feeling the ambiance of the moment, the complimenting smells and aroma in the air, the man who played serial killer and cannibal Dr. Hannibal Lecter three times in his illustrious career decided to play the classic tune.
At the top of the clip, the singer can be heard singing: “Try the enchiladas with the bacala fish, hey goomba, I love the way you dance the rumba,” all while continuing his moves.
Wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a matching T-shirt, the four-time BAFTA winner flashed a bright smile at the end of his gallery, then looked straight at the camera and began walking out of the kitchen.
“Hey Jumba, do you like the way I dance the rumba…?” “Sunday vibes,” Sir Anthony, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to drama in 1993, wrote in the caption.
His dance in the kitchen seems to have been a hit with many of his fans and followers on social media, considering all the positive comments the clip has inspired.
“I love you” along with “best actor in the world” and “this made my heart smile” seemed to sum up many of the people who commented on the dance video.
While many fans just shared how happy they were to see him with a few simple words, some of his 3.2 million TikTok followers offered a suggestion or two as well.
“Suddenly I need Anthony Hopkins and Stanley Tucci hanging out in the kitchen talking about Italian food,” one man wrote, referring to actor Stanley Tucci’s show: Searching for Italy.
Another person wrote: “Nothing like dancing while cooking,” while many others also acknowledge their dancing with phrases like: “I did a few moves with Sir Anthony Hopkins!”
Of course, there were also plenty of comments referencing what many consider his most famous role: “Oh my God!” I never thought Dr. Lecter would act this way!
Hopkins played Dr. Hannibal Lecter first in the popular horror thriller The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and then again in Hannibal (2001) and The Red Dragon (2002).
The song that plays in the video, Mambo Italiano, was originally written by Bob Merrill in 1954 for Rosemary Clooney.
It seems as if Hopkins was right in his choice to play the tune while cooking Italian food.
In his clip, there is some pasta on the table, as well as a bottle of what appears to be olive oil, a staple of Italian cuisine.
