Soap opera star Sonia Eddy has Died. She was 55 years old.
Octavia Spencer announced on her Instagram The “General Hospital” actress passed away Monday. No details have been provided regarding the cause of Eddie’s death.
βMy friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another iconic angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her πποΈ,β Spencer, 52, captioned a professional head-to-head photo of Eddie.
“My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends and fans!”
ABC also confirmed the news to Page Six in an emailed statement.
“General Hospital” is sad to confirm the passing of actress Sonya Eddy, whose character she portrayed…the tough, compassionate head nurse, Epiphany Johnson…and instantly became a favorite and beloved member of the “GH” family when she joined the show in 2006.”
Executive Producer Frank Valentini also told us he’s “saddened by the loss of the amazing Sonia Eddy,” who he loved as a friend.
He continued, “The lights at Nurses’ Center will now be much more subdued, but her spirit and light will live on in the show and in our set.” βOn behalf of the entire ‘GH’ cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and fans. She will be greatly missed.β
Eddie began her long-running run on the ABC series in 2006. She portrayed the character Epiphany Johnson, a no-nonsense head nurse who was the mother of the late Stan Johnson, who became involved with the mob.
Eddie also played a role in the SOAPnet spin-off “General Hospital: Night Shift”.
Eddie has also appeared in TV shows and movies such as ‘Seinfeld’, ‘Patch Adams’, ‘Reba’, ‘Monk’, ‘Jean of Arcadia’, ‘CSI’, ‘Glee’, ‘Castle’ and ‘Fresh of the Boat’ . “
Celebrities and fans flooded Spencer’s ad with comments of mourning and sympathy.

Another fan said that “General Hospital” wouldn’t be “the same without her”.
“She was such a beautiful woman inside and out,” the fan added, and included a crying emoji.
