A rare West Coast Hurricane that has rays, the Angels play two games on Saturday

Anaheim, California – The Rays have dealt with scheduling issues related to the Hurricanes several times while playing home games on Florida’s west coast.

But now their schedule has been affected by a rare hurricane heading toward the US West Coast, the first tropical storm to hit Southern California in 84 years.

Because of Hurricane Hillary, the Rays’ Sunday Series will now be played with the Angels, as part of a doubleheader split, with game times of 4:07 and 9:07 p.m. (Tampa Bay time). This will allow the Rays to head home before the storm’s expected arrival, which is expected to include severe flooding, mudslides, and possibly tornadoes.

“I think MLB probably did the right thing by being proactive with it,” said Rays manager Kevin Cash. “You wish the best for the safety of all of Southern California. I know they don’t see many Hurricanes that way; it’s been a long time. Perhaps it would be best for both clubs to do this and let us out.”

The Rays Zach Eflin will start the night game, which was the original plan, and an extra rest day. Tyler Glasnow, who was scheduled to play on Sunday, will instead work the apprentice on regular rest. Plus, he’s skipped a throwing session, as he sometimes does, since the start of Monday, when he came back hard from back cramps, so changing wasn’t an issue.

Right-hander Cooper Cresswell will be called up as the 27th man to add depth in the bullpen, which will come in handy since the Rays ran the bullpen on Friday.
