Ian Ziering has spoken out after being involved in a horrific brawl with a group of scooter bikers in Hollywood on New Year's Eve.
The Beverly Hills 90210 alum, 59, took shelter at his home Instagram on Monday to share details of the “disturbing incident” and update fans on the condition of his 10-year-old daughter, Pena, who was sitting in his car at the time of the altercation.
“While I was stuck in traffic, one of these passengers aggressively approached my vehicle resulting in a disturbing confrontation,” it began.
“In an attempt to assess any damage I exited my vehicle. Unfortunately, this action escalated into a physical altercation, which I overcame to protect myself.
A video of the violent episode shows the star clashing with four bikers who threw punches and kicks before running across the street on Hollywood Boulevard.
“I'm relieved to report that I and my daughter are completely safe, but the incident has left me deeply concerned about the increasing audacity of such groups disrupting public safety and peace,” Ziering added on Instagram.
“This situation highlights the larger issue of rioting on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior.”
He continued: “As a citizen and a father, I find it unacceptable that maritime groups engage in this type of behaviour, causing fear and chaos, while the authorities' response appears inadequate,” before urging law enforcement to “take decisive action.” '
“I have always been an advocate for standing up against intimidation and misconduct, and this incident reinforces my belief in the importance of personal and community safety.”
He concluded: “I am grateful for the support of my family, friends and fans during this time.
'It is in challenging moments like these that the strength and unity of our community is most important. Happy New Year.'
Ziering shares equal custody of Pina, as well as her 12-year-old daughter, Mia, with his ex-wife, Erin Ludwig. The former couple married in 2010, separated in 2019, and their divorce was finalized in 2022.
On Monday, Erin, a registered nurse who still uses the last name Ziering on social media, took to Instagram to break her silence about the altercation.
She reposted her ex-husband's video, and wrote: “I have more than 150 messages about this incident within 24 hours and I do not respond because of that.” [Ian and Penna’s] Privacy.
“As I appreciate everyone's need for information, please respectfully understand, and if you need information, please contact the directly relevant persons.”
In another slide shared via Instagram Stories, the mother of two reshared her daughter Mia's post on social media.
Mia's note corrected a reporting error – “Guys, I'm fine.” tmz literally lied. I wasn't the person in the car. “It was Pina,” the teen wrote.
“Thanks for checking that out, but it was very misleading and embarrassing information too,” she continued. It is clear that it is evident. Like huh.
Her mother repeated on her personal page: “Please also respect my daughters’ privacy.” The wrong person was named.
A source told DailyMail.com that Ziering was “fine” after the incident. It was not immediately clear whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the incident as of Sunday evening. TMZ she reported, noting that an “official report” lists the Newark, New Jersey-born actor “as the victim” in the incident.
In an additional video posted by the site, Ziering appeared to comfort Mia, who was visibly upset.
Police told the outlet they are investigating the incident — which occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday near the popular corner of Hollywood and Highland, along the Hollywood Walk of Fame — and are reaching out to the people involved.
Sources told the outlet that “Ziering's vehicle… may have been struck” prior to the struggle that was captured on camera in the crash.
Sources told the outlet that Ziering was able to return to his car and leave the scene, while the group of scooter drivers suddenly left the scene after the violent accident.
The event marks the final chapter in what has been a challenging year for the Beverly Hills 90210 cast members.
Shannen Doherty had to undergo surgery to remove a tumor from her head that was performed on January 16, 2023, announcing the news of her long-term health battle in June. (Doherty was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and in February 2020, she said she had stage 4 breast cancer.)
Also in January, Doherty separated from her ex-husband Kurt Iswarenko, revealing they were divorcing in April amid “irreconcilable differences.”
Doherty said on her podcast earlier this month that she was looking forward to ending a “turbulent” year filled with “some tremendous health struggles, some tremendous personal struggles” and “a lot of heartbreak and fear.”
Ziering told People magazine earlier this month that Doherty has “always been a fighter” and is a “truly amazing woman.”
His bandmate Tori Spelling has made headlines over the past 12 months due to a series of financial problems, unsafe living conditions, physical illness and her split from estranged husband Dean McDermott.
