AUGUSTA, GA. – After the first part of a long, often confusing week, the 86th Masters is taking place today with much anticipation as we think of carrying a major championship. Tiger Woods has been circling it for the first time since the horrific car crash of February 2021, and he has been expelling almost all oxygen from the August National for the past three days. However, several storylines will begin to emerge starting Thursday morning.
Chief among them is Rory McIlroy’s attempt for her first Masters and elusive career Grand Slam. When asked about this Wednesday, his response was overwhelming: “I love the Augusta Nationals. I love the Masters. I have enjoyed wonderful times here, not so many wonderful times. But I’ll be back every year, and I’ll be back. Until they let me in.” Many people think of masters, and a name – perhaps Colin Morikawa, John Rahm, Scotty Scheffler, Victor Howland, Justin Thomas or McIlroy – will all be added to the list this year.
