We've been using the C4 benchmark as it's fairly easy to run but I think it's days are numbered. Using an outdated engine with few bells and whistles to challenge today's video cards and still showing less than 60fps at 1280 x 1024. I didn't even include 1024 x 768 scores since they were almost identical to 1280. Since this is such a broadly used benchmark I decided to include it here, but chances are good, this will be the last time you see me use this particular code.
SPECviewperf 7.0
SPEC ViewPerf is an OpenGL benchmark program that measures your card in a professional workstation environment using several different viewsets. Looking for a more detailed explanation? Here is a quote from the program.
"SPECviewperf™ is a portable OpenGL performance benchmark program written in C. It was developed by IBM. Later updates and significant contributions were made by SGI, Digital (Compaq, HP), 3Dlabs (Creative Labs) and other SPECopcSM project group members. SPECviewperf provides a vast amount of flexibility in benchmarking OpenGL performance. Currently, the program runs on most implementations of UNIX, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Linux."
All benchmarks in this instance were run with all AA and AF disabled, as well as any graphical goodies at their lowest. I wanted to bring these cards to equal ground for this particular test so we could see their true horsepower in an OpenGL Professional rendering environment. As you can see, the cards go back and forth a bit, so there is no clear winner hear. Typically, nVidia cards run well in a workstation situation but the aging R9700 Pro does show some muscle in a few of the benchmarks.
