AOpen 8x DVD Dual Review - One Final Test and Summary

And now, for my final trick, I will insert a DVD into my machine and watch a movie.  Digging into my video collection, I decided to grab one of my favorite recent epics, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.  I wanted to test the drive under heavy conditions, and the battle for Minas Tirith was no disappointment.

Using the bundled PowerDVD software, I easily skipped forward to the chapter in the DVD where the battle at Minas Tirith began.  The drive then began to show me, in excellent quality, the horrific and awe inspiring battle in all its glory.  The video was seamless, as was the audio track.  So enthralled was I by the quality, that I actually sat and watched the movie to the very end on the computer monitor, even though a true home theatre system with a 32-inch television lies only 3 feet to the right of me.

In essence, the playback was perfect. The sounds of the horses breathing as the largely outnumbered Rohirrim ready themselves to ride into the the fray of battle and the booming of the Oliphants were realistic to the eyes and ears, just as was intended by the filmmaker.  There was no disappointment here.

    In Summation

VS-3151 - Dev Hardware RecomendedTo wrap this review up in a nutshell, the AOpen 8x DVD Dual is an exceptional piece of hardware in a sea of DVD burners.  In my testing it performed flawlessly through all exercises I put it through.  To top it off, the drive is nice and quiet.  So quiet in fact, I had to actually look at the activity light on the front of the unit to be sure it was working.

The thing that makes this drive even more desirable than its impressive results is its price.  After a little searching, I was able to find this drive for as little as $80 on the Internet.  For a drive with all of the features, giving the performance it does, this is amazing.  I would not hesitate to recommend this drive to anyone looking for a DVD burner for typical home use, and this why he have awarded the AOpen 8x DVD Dual the Dev Hardware Recommended award.
