APC Back ES-550VA UPS - First Impressions

The name of the manufacturer is APC. The company's reputation reflects its motto, “Legendary Reliability;” this already inspires trust. Just as Blizzard made its name for launching only “best-selling” games that became legends among gamers, APC managed to become known as the best in the UPS business.

Before you place the company in a fairy tale let me tell you that its along with its legendary reliability, APC became known for its high prices compared to the competition. This equipment can be had for €80 (or $US119.95) in the market. Also this UPS is only for 230V output; that's the standard in Europe and Australia. United States readers needn't worry, however, because there exists a US-only version with slightly different aesthetics.

After we pay the price in the shop we’ll get in return a box that will look like this:

This box, by the way, is quite heavy. As you remove everything, you'll find the following pieces and components.

It’s a little heavy, but bearable, and at first glance we can deduce that the targeted users are to be found in the home/office segment. The device is designed to be little, not wasting any space near/under the desktop, and also to be practical as it is equipped with 8 Schuko plugs.
