Vidabox HTPC Wireless Keyboard - Learn more about it

Since I'm a huge proponent of using a wireless keyboard with a HTPC, this product is definitely one that shows promise to me. On my own HTPC at home, I was previously using a Logitech Cordless keyboard. This keyboard was a lot bigger than the Vidabox keyboard, but had that distinct "I-am-a-PC-keyboard" look to it.

I'm happy to say that the Vidabox breaks away from this stereotype nicely.  Before we go any further and open the box, let's take a look at the specifications from the Vidabox website.

    Specifications:

    • 30-foot (10m) wireless range.
    • Compact form factor with integrated trackball pointing device and mouse buttons.
    • Auto-shutoff feature preserves battery life.
    • Requires 3 AA batteries (alkaline or rechargeable).
    • Battery Life: Two (2) month stand-by time.
    • Dimensions: 12.83" x 5.04" x .97" (326mm x 128mm x 24.72mm).
    • Weight: 1.13lbs (512 grams).

This keyboard uses high power 2.4GHz RF wireless technology to communicate with your HTPC. It has an effective range of up to 30 feet, but that will drop dramatically if you move to another room. The auto-shutoff feature helps to conserve your battery life, allowing for a standby time of up to two months.

The box the keyboard arrived in was no frills.  Definitely not the kind of box you would see sitting on the shelf at your local computer store.  This leads us to believe that this keyboard is not going to end up in retail outlets any time soon.

Opening the box, we see the keyboard all nice and snug inside some protective bubble wrap.  The cardboard spacer on the left actually holds some of the accessories as well.
