H20 Audio Series Waterproof Headphones - Testing and Conclusion
(Page 4 of 4 )
So now comes the fun part, giving these things a run for their money. As always, my trusty iPod is standing by with an arsenal of melodic weapons to see how these headphones will stand up.

Above you see the H20 Audio Waterproof headphones plugged into my iPod Video, which is sporting around in Otterbox’s waterproof enclosure. I tested the setup first sitting comfortably at my computer. Then I went outside where there was a good deal of ambient noise. Then I got brave, and actually hopped in the swimming pool, listening to my iPod below water level.
The sound coming from the headphones was crystal clear, but to be honest, lacking in the lower frequencies. When I first heard how tinny the sound was, I paused the song where I was and replaced the H20 Headphones with a different pair (Icemat Siberia In:Ear headphones), which replicated the lower frequencies (the BASS) nice and strong. I tried trimming the earpieces to fit better, using the headphones without the earpieces, and even letting the headphones play for an hour at 90 percent volume, as the instruction manual indicates for no sound whatsoever. But none of this changed the tone of the music.
And this brings us to the pros and cons for these headphones:
Pros:
- Works in wet conditions, even when completely sumbmersed.
- Adjustable and modular, to fit to your taste.
- Customizable silicone earpieces for better sound.
- Lightweight and comfortable.
- Inexpensive ($40 at the time of this writing).
Cons:
- Sound quality kind of tinny, low frequency response (bass) barely evident
Based on the above information, I give these headphones an 8 out of 10. Sure, they are lacking in the lower frequencies, but tunes are still tunes, and being able to enjoy them where other headphones fear to tread still makes these headphones a contender. Surfers, water skiers, and other water enthusiasts rejoice!
