Evercool Nighthawk VC-F117 - Conclusion
Pros
- Easy installation
- Solid, made of good quality material
- Performs better even than a big stock P4 HS and fan
- Fits the card perfectly
- 3 to 4 pin adapter included
Cons
- Manual is full of spelling errors that might deter some serious consumers and suggested the wrong clip
- Memory heatsinks are inefficient compared to larger ones
- F117 design is made to be attractive, but HS visibility is low since it’s facing down
In conclusion, I would like to commend Evercool on making a good cooling solution. It seems like a solid piece and has the performance to back up its looks. It is easy to install, and setup does not require a long time. Although I was not able to find a US distributor who would sell this product online, I could not provide its cost, but I think $30 is a fair ballpark price for it. It is worth that much to anyone with a window in their case.
Although performance was satisfactory, the F-117 design could have been omitted, thus making the product slightly less expensive. But we may be talking about money that fades in comparison to extra sales that the design generates. So it is justifiable. The memory heatsinks have to go. I would rather pay $5 extra and have quality RAMsinks.
Overall, I am very satisfied with its cooling ability, but unfortunately if I decide to use this card again I might need to find better heatsinks for my RAM or put my old P4 HSF back on.
