EPoX EP-AT690G Pro Motherboard Review - Wrapping it Up

So there we have it, the workings of EPoX's first board based on the AMD 690G chipset.

I do have to tell you, I was pretty impressed with this board overall.  When assembling a system, it is invaluable to have power and reset buttons on the motherboard, especially when the motherboard is so new it doesn't have a manual yet.  EPoX has once again shown its dedication to hardware enthusiasts by giving us the ability to adjust most aspects of the system for optimum overclocking ability.  And the additional features, like GhostBios, Thunder Probe, and Magic Screen are just like icing on the cake.

The biggest gripe I personally had with the board is the location of the ATX connector.  But I've seen that in a lot of board designs, of late, so it's not just EPoX.

As always, here are the pros and cons for this board:

    Pros:

    • Integrated 7.1 Audio
    • Integrated X700 Radeon performs well, outside of heavy 3D
    • Numerous backing utilities (Thunder Probe, Ghost Bios, etc)
    • Excellent performance and overclocking abilities
    • In board VGA and DVI ports available

    Cons:

    • The ATX Power Connector makes the power harness block the CPU fan
    • The integrated X700 video dies in heavy 3D graphics (5-10 fps)
    • Would have liked to see 1394 support

Based on the performance of the board, including its outstanding overclocking ability, I would be remiss not to give the EPoX EP-AT690G Pro motherboard a score of 9 out of 10, and Dev Hardware's Gold award.

I'd like to thank the people at EPoX for sending us this motherboard for review.  If you'd like more information about this board, or any of EPoX's other products, visit their website at http://www.epox.com.
