DFI 855GME-MGF Motherboard Review - Unreal Tournament, WinRAR

    Unreal Tournament 2003

In gaming, the A64 holds a slight advantage over its smaller sibling. But when you massively overclock the Sempron 3100+, that advantage disappears, and then some. The botmatch test is obviously more CPU dependant, having to calculate AI and the physics for more bots. The flyby test gains less from the change in CPU capabilities. Still, the Pentium M is right in the middle of things, comparing very similarly to the gaming master known as the Athlon64. Right now though, you can buy much faster A64s than this one tested running at 1.8GHz, but if you are willing to do some work with overclocking that gap can be closed regardless of what initial speeds Intel puts up for sale.

    WinRAR

Data compression is done regularly in both home and business environments to create backups and keep work organized, secure, and transportable. For this test, we archived an 82 MB photo collection to a .rar folder, and timed how long it took. As you can see from the results, the lack of cache in the Sempron took it right out of the picture compared to its larger A64 brethen, but it still sits fairly close to the cold stock P-M. Easing the bandwidth gridlock into the chip opens up six seconds alone. That's a fairly significant jump, and shows how constricted the processor can be if left with a frontside bus speed of only 100MHz and memory at 133. Bringing the clock speed up as well pushes an equally significant gap.
