Kingston HyperX KHX4000K2-1GB Memory Review - Conclusion

Kingston has been firing on cylinders with their release of the HyperX line of memory modules and their PC4000 1GB Dual Channel kit does not disappoint. I had no stability problems at all running the memory at its rated speed and was even able to tighten up the memory timing to CAS 2.5. However, even when I increased the voltage above the default 2.6 volts I could not get the memory to operate stably above 500MHz. Also, I couldn't not push the memory higher than 432MHz when using the 5:4 memory ratio. This can probably be contributed to an incompatibility issue with the ABIT IC7-G used for testing. The IC7-G has been known to have memory ratio issues with a variety of different brands of memory modules.

    Highs

    • Performs flawlessly as advertised
    • Only requires 2.6V to run at its rated speed
    • Great customer service
    • Price, not cheap but better than most of their competitors

    Lows

    • There is faster memory on the market

While the Corsair PC4400 memory I recently tested was faster than Kingston's PC4000 it was not a huge difference. If you factor in the nearly $100 price difference between the two the Kingston PC4000 is easily my favorite. Like Corsair, Kingston has exceptional customer service and is a very reliable company with a lifetime warranty.  I can without reservation recommend Kingston's PC4000 1GB Dual Channel kit.

For those of you that believe 1GB is unnecessary or overkill for gamers I leave you with this screen shot. I was playing UT2004 with all other programs closed running 2GB of RAM.  You can see the system is using 1.27 GB out of the 2GBs available.
