Microsoft Sidewinder Gaming Mouse - Performance
(Page 4 of 5 )
Performance
It's tough to rate the performance of the Sidewinder, because it has not been released to the public at the time of this writing. We can take a look at the specs for the Sidewinder released by Microsoft in their own testing. I thought that it would be best if I compared the numbers of the Sidewinder with a couple of its competitors: Logitech G5 and Razer Copperhead.
Microsoft Sidewinder ($79):
- 2,000 DPI resolution, user-adjustable.
- 7,080 frames per second image processing.
- maximum speed of 45 inches per second.
- USB reporting of 500 Hz.
- Buttons -- 9 million clicks.

Logitech G5 ($45):
- user selectable resolution-2000, 800, or 400 DPI.
- 6.4 mega-pixel per second image processing.
- 20g of maximum acceleration.
- 45-65 inches per second of maximum speed.
- USB report rate of 1000 reports/second.

Razer Copperhead ($69.99)
- 2,000 DPI resolution.
- 32KB of on-board memory.
- 1,000 Hz Ultrapolling/ 1 millisecond response time.
- 45 inches per second maximum speed.
- 20 g of acceleration.
- 7,080 frames per second image processing.
Keep in mind that the figures that I have used in this comparison come directly from the manufacturer's website and not from independent testing. The figures
between the three competitors are relatively equal. Image processing and maximum mouse speed are pretty equal in all three models, although the Logitech G5 shows a maximum speed of 65 inches per second (depending upon the surface the mouse is being used on).
Because the performance is so similar in all three models, I would recommend making the the decision between the competitors based upon features and price. All three models that I focused on are corded mice, although Microsoft claims that with their internal cord storage built-in to the Sidewinder, it will give the mouse a cordless feel; I don't know about that.
