Encrypt and Decrypt Windows: TrueCrypt Techniques - Back to the Wizard

You will be returned to the TrueCrypt Volume Creation Wizard. Click the "Finish" button to close the wizard and return to TrueCrypt.

You will now return to the TrueCrypt main window. You will no longer see your system drive in the volume list. Your system is now completely unencrypted and is ready to be encrypted again should the need arise.

    Conclusion

In this tutorial, I showed you how to encrypt your Windows install. You learned that you can encrypt just the C: partition or the entire hard drive. You also learned how to change the functionality of the TrueCrypt boot loader to quickly mislead unauthorized users. Keep in mind this only changes the visual appearance of the boot loader; any individual who can forensically inspect the hard drive will be able to identify the TrueCrypt boot loader.

Finally, you learned how to decrypt your system should you no longer have the need keep your computer encrypted. Encrypting Windows is a keen security measure for protecting your portable devices such as netbooks, tablets, and laptops.

In my next and final article in the TrueCrypt series, you will learn how to not only encrypt Windows, but you will also learn how to create a decoy version of Windows which can be used should you ever be required to divulge your password.
