The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 and the Canon PowerShot SD980 IS - Cyber-shot features
(Page 2 of 4 )
Although it is small and compact, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 has plenty of advanced features. It has a 10.2-megapixel back-illuminated "Exmor R" CMOS image sensor that aids in taking great pictures even where there is little light available. It also helps to reduce graininess in such situations even without the use of a flash. The sensor teams well with the camera's fast BIONZ image processor.
The DSC-WX1 also has a high end 24mm G lens with 5x optical zoom, often found in expensive DSLR cameras and HD camcorders, that gathers twice the light of lenses found in other digital cameras in its class. This allows you to take more shots indoors without the need for a flash. The wide angle lens also allows you to include more people in group shots where you have little room to move around or in cramped situations.
As far as shooting modes go, there are plenty to keep even the most picky shooter happy. For beginners, the Easy Shooting mode simplifies the camera, removing many adjustable settings; it picks the best settings for you according to the situation using Intelligent Scene Recognition technology. The iAuto Mode also uses similar technology, in addition to Face Detection technology, to pick the optimal settings for your shots based the scene and lighting conditions.
Anti Motion Blur mode can be used for moving shots, as the camera takes six shots in a fraction of a second and combines them to give you a clear picture. Similarly, Handheld Twilight mode takes six quick shots in low lighting conditions and combines them to give you less noise and greater detail. Pet mode turns off the flash to avoid glowing eyes in pictures and reduces blur so you can snap pictures of your canine or feline while they are moving.
The coolest mode by far, though, has to be the Sweep Panorama mode, which allows you to take panoramic shots of up to 256 degrees. By simply pressing the shutter release and sweeping the camera in the desired direction, the DSC-WX1 will take several photos at high speeds and combine them into a single panoramic image. For fans of video, there is also a Movie mode that uses the optical zoom to record video clips in 720p HD up to 29 minutes long.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 is an impressive little camera. You wouldn't expect to have so much technology packed into such a small frame, but such is the case with this point-and-shoot. The different modes, especially the Sweep Panorama mode, make the picture taking experience not only memorable, but fun as well.
