Sony Alpha DSLR A700 Camera - Key Features

The Sony Alpha DSLR A700 offers up a ton of features that are beyond the scope of this review, so I'll just stick to some of the key features that I've found on this camera. First, the A700 has so many photo adjustment options that it's hard to keep track of them. Here's a short list of some of the manual adjustments that the A700 is capable of performing: image parameters, contrast, brightness, sharpness, saturation, white balance, exposure, and ISO levels (up to 6400). I'm willing to bet that most users won't even take advantage of many of these image adjustment options, but it's still good to have access to so many settings.

Sony uses its Super SteadyShot image stabilization system in this camera. This technology is a lot like the IS used by many of the FujiFilm cameras in that, instead of using an optical image stabilization system, Sony actually uses a sensor-shift IS system. I've heard both good things and bad things about sensor-shift technology. It works by actually shifting the sensor to compensate for camera-shake. DPReview conducted tests of the Super SteadyShot IS system and said, “with 'Super SteadyShot' switched on you can see an immediate improvement...Overall a good performance.”

One of the cool features of the A700 is accessible from the mode dial. It's the “MR” (memory recall) setting. This is a very useful feature that allows the user to save up to three different shooting modes and settings for quick and easy access later.

The A700 offers a variety of automatic modes as well as manual modes. There is a sensor located on the hand grip of the A700 that will begin focusing the lens when touched (this feature can be turned on or off). When pressing the shutter release button down halfway, the A700's AF system will lock onto the subject and then will allow you to manually focus the shot as well. The combination of auto and manual controls is something that makes the A700 special.
