Canon SD850 IS Review - Cosmetics

The look of the SD850 is much like its predecessor the SD700, with the exception of the color scheme. The button configuration is pretty straightforward, and very typical of Canon's SD line. On top of the camera you will find the shutter button, as well as the zoom controls. Most of the controls are located on the rear of the camera. Here you can find the rotating function dial, an easy print button, a display button, a menu button, and a dial used to control various functions. There is also a function button that the user can program to any function they desire. The on/off button is also on the back of the camera, in a slightly awkward place just above the upper right corner of the LCD screen.

The LCD screen is a decent size at 2.5 inches, and it performs very well even under bright light. For the times where you want to save battery life by turning the LCD screen off, the SD850 offers an optical viewfinder. This viewfinder is located just above the LCD screen, to the left of the on/off button.

The feel of this camera is good, and it is definitely mobile with its small size. The SD850's dimensions are 3.5x1x2.2 inches, and it weighs only 5.8 ounces. Because of its small size, some of the controls are a bit small but that shouldn't be an issue since small cameras inevitably have small buttons. Beyond the good feel and size, this camera just looks very attractive in a simple yet eye-catching way.
