Shopping for a digital camera? Canon's Powershot line is quite well-known. Today, we'll be examining the versatile SD800 IS and finding out what it can do for the average digital camera fan.
Introduction
The Canon Powershot SD800 IS is the the follow-up to the Powershot SD700 which was released in March of 2006. Canon unveiled the SD800 about 7 months later. The SD700, which had been a very popular camera for Canon, set a very high standard. Canon decided to build upon the SD700 in order to leave the good points intact while adding some much welcomed new features.

The most popular new feature of the SD800 is the new wide-angle lens which allows for wider shots. Another equally important upgrade was the increase of the CCD image sensor from 6 megapixels in the SD700 to 7.1 megapixels in the SD800. When you couple these two major improvements with the fact that the camera is extremely small and well built, it makes the SD800 IS very competitive with other cameras in the pocket-sized point-and-shoot class.
