Asus K60I-RBBBR05 and the Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018 - Asus Features and Design

Other than its core components, the K60I-RBBBR05 also comes with some nice extras. For entertainment, there is a DVD drive so you can watch DVDs and listen to and burn CDs. There is 802.11n Wi-Fi for connecting to the fastest wireless networks available. A built-in webcam and microphone are included for video chatting with friends. To transfer data from other digital devices, there is a media card reader that accepts such formats as SD cards, Memory Sticks, and more.

In terms of looks, the K60I-RBBBR05 is attractive, thanks to its dark brown and black color scheme that is a nice departure from the usual colors found on laptops, as well as the textured pattern used. The lid is glossy and therefore a fingerprint magnet, but it is easy on the eyes. The laptop is well-built; it weighs 5.7 pounds and measures 14.6 inches wide by 10.1 inches deep by 1.4 inches thick.

The interior of the laptop is highlighted by its 16-inch display with 1,366x768 resolution. The display offers good graphics and has a glossy finish. Luckily, Asus added a special anti-glare coating to the display to help against reflections in bright rooms.

The LED-backlit technology used by the display helps conserve energy and adds to the laptop's solid battery life. The display is convenient for multimedia and movies, but the integrated Altec Lansing speakers are average at best. You will want to use headphones when watching movies, particularly if your hearing is not all that great.

The keyboard on the K60I-RBBBR05 is very good. It has chiclet-style keys and a separate number pad that are both very easy to type on. The touch pad is usable and supports multi-touch gestures, although some may find it to be a bit small.

Finishing off the K60I-RBBBR05's design is its connectivity, which is average. The right side features microphone and headphone jacks, two USB ports, a VGA port, and an Ethernet port. The left side houses the DVD drive and two other USB ports. Finally, the media card reader sits on the front of the laptop.

If you are in need of a mainstream laptop that is affordable, the Asus K60I-RBBBR05 might be the one for you. Performance is competitive, and the feature set is well-rounded. Connectivity may not be the greatest, but the overall package presented by the K60I-RBBBR05 is a solid one.
