SilverStone TJ06 Computer Case Review - A Closer Look at the Case

Before installing the hardware it is a good idea to look at the case to become familiar with its setup. It is very different from the standard ATX mid-towers.

These 7 slots are for expansion cards. They are tool-less and have an area behind them to vent hot air.

Here the three cooling zones can be seen as well as the wind tunnel. The first zone is the top area where the 5.25" bays, hard drive slots and power supply go. The second zone is below that, where the 3.5" bays and expansion cards would go. This area is cooled with an 80mm intake fan in the front. The third is is beneath the clear plastic wind tunnel. This area is where the processor and system memory would be installed. It is cooled by two 120mm fans, one intake, one exhaust.

And the exhaust fan. Notice that there is no corresponding 80mm fan on the exhaust side. The hot air is expected to go though the rear vents or be sucked out by the power supplies fan(s).

This is the area where the power supply (top) and hard drives need to be installed. Notice the vented cage on the top and bottom of the hard drive rack. This allows the bottom fan of a power supply equipped with one to pull air over, cooling the hard drives.

In order to install any 5.25" or 3.5" drives, the front door must be opened with the provided keys, the metal knockouts removed, and the drive plates removed with a Philips head screwdriver. This is so much nicer than most cases, where the remaining drive plates can typically be knocked out of place by mistake.
