Young MA gave an update on her health after a viral clip spooked fans earlier this year, and revealed that she plans to shed light on her struggles in a new documentary.
The Brooklyn rapper opened up to her seven million Instagram followers on Sunday (April 9), going in-depth about her recent health issues and saying she’s “very sober” now.
Long story short: Basically, it’s a small setback, you know what I mean? Unfortunately, I’ve made a lot of wrong decisions in my life and things are starting to catch up. [me]I explained. “I just want you all to know besides all of that, I’m actually doing a lot better. I’m getting better. I’ve been pretty sober.”
Anyway, I don’t want to go into detail specifically because I really want to bring you all along on my journey. Besides dropping some new music, of course, I also have a documentary with my story or whatever the case is, so I’ll tune in because I know you all are Supporting you, asking questions and all that.”
The 31-year-old continued, “You know I’m mysterious, and I keep my personal issues to myself, but now is the time to expand that and express that to all of you.”

Fans expressed concern about Young MA last month based on her appearance and demeanor in a video showing her getting her hair cut at a barbershop. The rapper responded by explaining that she was recently treated in the hospital for a number of conditions and is currently recovering.
“As many of my supporters know I have been dealing with several personal health issues in the past few years,” she wrote. “I was recently hospitalized and have been successfully treated for several conditions. I am doing much better now, it will take some time but I am on the road to recovery and looking forward to the future.”
Many have sent her good wishes regarding her health, including Royce da 5’9.
“You are a hero @youngma,” Royce wrote, captioning Young MA’s photo, “Culture is rooting for you and I am sending you love and good wishes. I was a fan… love and respect…”
