US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield on Sunday said sanctions on Russia’s energy sector have not yet been lifted and the United States continues to punish the province for its aggression against Ukraine.
“We did not take anything off the table. We’ll continue to look at this,” he told CNN’s Dana Bash, entitled “State of the Union.”
“We are making progress as the Russians progress. So there is a lot more. Although energy is not in motion – in this current announcement, that does not mean it is off the table, but we want to do everything we can to protect our own economy from its impact,” Thomas-Greenfield said.
UN Ambassador told Bash that the trial of Russians for war crimes in a court-martial was “on the table.”
Ukraine has accused Russia of committing war crimes in pursuit of civilian goals and has called on Moscow to face military tribunal. Russia says its forces are only targeting military installations and not attacking residential areas.
Thomas-Greenfield’s comments come as the United States continues to mount its response to Russia.
