Random: People are still discovering secrets about BOTW’s DLC Blight Battles

You probably thought we’d emptied the well of Breath of the Wild secrets, right? We did that too. As it turns out, there are still features we didn’t know about.

One such fact was recently revealed by a YouTube channel Reinventing games, who explained in a recent video that Champion’s Ballad’s Blight battles get easier with repeated attempts. Who would have thought that Calamity Ganon would be so forgiving?

In the video above, we get a full breakdown of the dynamic difficulty in action. When repeatedly running into the same enemy, the game will provide Link with a set of useful items to make the next attempt less difficult.

After three attempts on a single Blight, Link will begin his next round with the fairy in his element for a quick revive. If he falls three more times (bringing the total to six), the game offers a meal and a special elixir to the boss on hand to help navigate some tricky effects.

It’s not a dynamic difficulty in the sense that bosses get weaker, but it’s a nice way to help out those who might be struggling to get through one specific battle – where the same setup exists in Dark Souls, right?

It turns out that they don’t measure attempts on deaths alone. As the Gaming Reinvented video shows, you can activate repeat attempt bonuses simply by jumping in and out of battle the desired number of times. There are easier ways to get each item, of course, but it’s easy to tell if you’ve got it or not truly She needs a fairy and can’t be bothered with going fishing.

We’d imagine this would be one of the last “new” revelations we’d see in Breath of the Wild, but hey, we’re always ready to be proven wrong by a seven-year-old game.
