Margot Robbie’s Barbie performance was inspired by the podcast

At Greta Gerwig’s BarbieMargot Robbie plays Barbie. Kate McKinnon also plays Barbie (technically weird Barbie), as well as Issa Rae (President Barbie), Hari Neff (Doctor Barbie), Alexandra Shipp (Barbie writer), Emma Mackie (Barbie physicist), Sharon Rooney (attorney Barbie), and Dua Lipa (Mermaid Barbie), Nicola Coughlan (Diplomat Barbie), Anna Cruz Cain (Judge Barbie), Rito Arya (Journalist Barbie), etc. That’s a lot of Barbies (and Kens), but there’s one thing that connects them, plus they’re all called Barbies: They have Barbie Energy, as Robbie said. Vogue magazine.

“Gal Gadot represents the energy of Barbie,” she explained. “Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that pretty, because she’s so honest, so sweet, that it’s almost shoddy. It’s just like before you’re an asshole.”

Ruby also revealed on the podcast that helped her play Barbie.

“I was like, Greta, I need to go through the whole character journey. And Greta was like, Oh, I have a really good podcast for you.” Gerwig Robbie sent an episode of This American Life, about a woman who does not meditate. “Do you know how you have a voice in your head all the time?” Robbie says. “This woman, she doesn’t have that voice in her head.”

If Robbie hadn’t won an Oscar for it BarbieBecause Gerwig should have sent her an episode of… Doughboys instead of.

The voice in my head tells me Barbie It comes out July 21. I also need to get a CVS prescription, but mostly Barbie something.
