This year, all iPhone 15 models will include Apple’s Dynamic Island that unifies the bezel and punch-holes at the top of the screen, but there will also be a substantial change to the feature that isn’t included on the iPhone 14 Pro models.
according to new tweet By Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the proximity sensor on the iPhone 15 series will be integrated within the Dynamic Island, rather than sitting underneath it.
On the iPhone 14 Pro, the proximity sensor is located below the screen (outside Dynamic Island). On the contrary, in the iPhone 15 series, the proximity sensor is located inside the Dynamic Island, with almost no change to the Dynamic Island area.
The proximity sensor detects when the user raises the phone to his ear and turns off the screen. As Kuo says, the modification is unlikely to result in any difference in the look or function of the “dynamic island,” but it will signal a change in components, possibly instigated to cut costs.
According to Kuo, Apple supplier Finisar will switch to providing Apple with proximity sensors of 940nm wavelength, compared to 1380nm for the iPhone 14 Pro.
