Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams perform on stage during the ‘Taylor Swift | Eras Tour’ at Wembley Stadium, on June 23, 2024, in London.

In an appearance on SiriusXM Hits 1’s “The Morning Mash Up” on Tuesday, Abrams shared how it all came together.

“Before we went up together, we were in the tent and he said he went up right before me — I think he did two songs or something,” Abrams said. “He said, ‘I’m going to screw it up so you look really good.’”

Not only did Kelsey get cheers from the crowd when he appeared on stage in a tuxedo, but he also joined in Swift’s fun performance during her set “Tortured Poets Department.”

Being part of Swift’s tour was meaningful for Abrams, who opened for Swift last year during several stops of her Eras North American tour and will join her during Final round dates Later this year in Canada.

“I can’t imagine this tour not being there,” Abrams said. “When she said one night at one of her shows, ‘Oh, this tour is ending in December,’ I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ I never thought that would happen. I’m so excited for everyone to get some rest and all that, but I’m going to miss her terribly.”

Swift and Abrams have become close friends over the years. Not only did Abrams open for her on her Eras tour, Swift also co-wrote the song “Us,” which is on Abrams’ latest album, “The Secret of Us.”

Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams embrace on stage during the ‘Taylor Swift | Eras Tour’ at Wembley Stadium, June 23, 2024, in London.

“It was the best time. It was so spontaneous, and that part made it 10 times more fun and less stressful,” Abrams said. “I think if I had known that I would ever sit down and write together, I probably would have shut up or panicked, just because I admired her writing more than anything else in my entire life.”

“But she was talking about it at Wembley, she said something I’ve never said before but it’s true, when you write with someone, you see the whole thing,” she continued. “You see the whole picture of who they are, and her, her enthusiasm and passion that goes into every single lyric, it just sets the bar even higher, and higher for me now that I’ve been able to experience it myself.”
