Giovanni Reyna is set to undergo a medical at Nottingham Forest later on Wednesday, as he concludes his season-long loan move from Borussia Dortmund, according to CBS Sports sources. The USMNT international has opted to switch to the Premier League despite interest from clubs such as Sevilla and Marseille as he attempts to find first-team football that has been so rare for him at the Westfalenstadion.

Forest are set to cover Reina's entire salary in Nuno Espirito Santo's sideline battle against relegation. Defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday evening left the Tries in 16th place in the Premier League table, just two points behind the bottom three.

Reyna, 21, has long been considered one of the brightest young talents in American soccer and moved to Dortmund to great fanfare in 2020. Since then he has made 121 appearances in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 16 assists. Those numbers might be higher if not for a series of injuries that have slowed his progress in recent years. Reina has played the full 90 minutes on just 10 occasions for Dortmund.

Dortmund's signing of Jadon Sancho on loan has blocked Reina's path to regular minutes, and with him awaiting the Copa America on home soil this summer, a move away from Dortmund was inevitable this winter. Playing in the Premier League will provide the attacking midfielder with the opportunity to prove his worth to Gregg Berhalter at the highest level, although Reina will face a major challenge to prove himself in the Forest XI. Morgan Gibbs-White is a lock in his preferred No.10 position while the likes of Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Nicolas Dominguez and Neco Williams have been given minutes on the wings.
