General Motors reveals the Chevrolet Blazer EV, priced at up to $45,000

The 2024 Blazer EV is expected to hit dealer showrooms starting next summer, according to General Motors. Pricing starts at about $45,000 for an entry-level Blazer to $66,000 for the “SS” performance variant that will produce up to 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque.

GM estimates that the crossover will be capable of 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds, compared to the Model Y Performance and Mach-E in about 3.5 seconds.

The Blazer EV’s features and capabilities will range based on the four vehicle models. GM expects the car’s electric range—a significant number for electric vehicle owners—to be between 247 miles and 320 miles, depending on the variant. Officials said the company will also offer a variant for police use based on the SS model.

The new Blazer EV will be produced at GM’s plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, where the traditional Blazer is assembled.

While the new EV shares the Blazer and factory name with a conventional internal combustion engine model, the vehicles are completely different in development, performance and appearance. “It’s a Blazer by name…and the vitality of a Blazer, but there is nothing in common between these two cars,” Chevrolet Vice President Scott Bell said during a media event.

The Blazer EV will be capable of front, rear or all-wheel drive, depending on the model. Like the exterior, the car’s interior is different from its traditional sibling and includes a driver-focused cockpit with a 17.7-inch diagonal central touchscreen and 11-inch driving information display.

The Blazer EV is expected to be Chevy’s fourth electric model when it hits showrooms next year. The brand currently sells Bolt EV and Bolt EUV with older GM battery technology. Sales of the Silverado Limited Electric are scheduled to begin next spring. The automaker is also expected to unveil the electric Equinox, which GM said will start around $30,000.

Pricing for a conventional 2022 Blazer with an internal combustion engine starts at about $35,000 to $43,000.
