Galaxy Unpacked August 2022 from Samsung: The Five Biggest Announcements

Samsung just wrapped up its latest Galaxy Unpacked event, announcing, as expected, two foldable devices, new smartwatches, and an update to its Galaxy Buds Pro line. While the company didn’t surprise us much with what was announced, the updates appear to be quality improvements across the board — although, as always, you’ll have to wait for full product reviews to see if they’re really meaningful improvements.

Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The Z Flip 4 looks a lot like its predecessor — and yes, it still flips like the foldable phones of days gone by. But there are some new software tricks, like seeing selfie previews on the cover screen which will have the same aspect ratio as the image itself and fast charging, which can charge the phone up to 50 percent in about 30 minutes. The phone starts at $999, and you can pre-order it today before it becomes available on August 26.

Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Samsung also isn’t changing things up much with the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The design is pretty much the same, although it did feel lighter than before, and Samsung made some big changes to the camera array, including a new 50MP main sensor. But starting at $1,799, the phone is still expensive. You can pre-order it today, and it will be available on August 26th.

Galaxy Watch 5.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 series has had poor battery life, but the company is aiming to fix that by using larger batteries in the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. It also has a body temperature sensor, which is rumored to happen Apple Watch this year too. The Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are available for pre-order today and will begin shipping on August 26.

Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro has a new design that is 15 percent smaller than the original pair and supports 24-bit hi-fi audio via Bluetooth. But those updates come at a higher price — the earphones cost $229.99, on top of the $30 of the original Galaxy Buds Pro. You can pre-order it today before it releases on August 26th.

New Samsung products use more recycled materials

Samsung too Discuss how to incorporate recycled materials In product designs announced at the event. For example, fishing nets are now being reused in the materials used to make the folds of the Z series and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. Samsung says it now uses recycled fishing nets on 11 of its devices.
