Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail finally fixes one of the worst things about MMOs

There’s one big problem that always means I won’t be able to get properly involved in any MMO games. I was told that I was the chosen one, the only one who could save the world from impending doom. It all falls on my shoulders. Well, if that’s the case, why are 20 other people around me being told the exact same thing by a lying NPC giving quests? It completely destroys my immersion. Final Fantasy XIV Downtrail Fixes this problem.

Final Fantasy 14 has been going strong for nearly 14 years, and I’m surprised the developers took this long to add an option to hide other players when near an NPC or quest object. When we reach the Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail release date, you’ll find the MMO much less crowded so you can focus on being the chosen person you were always meant to be.

This news was revealed today, Friday, June 14, during the Final Fantasy 14 Live Letter. In the photo below you can see the effect in action. Usually, when you’re near NPCs, so is everyone else. This makes sense – they are important people in the game world for most players. But with the filter turned on, you’ll see much fewer players when you’re nearby, and even fewer when you’re actually talking to them. Finally, a little peace and quiet.

Along with this welcome change, Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida told PCGamesN that he wants the game to have “80 to 90% multiplayer content from now on.” This is all part of an attempt to make the game less repetitive and encourage players to join parties, organize things, and figure things out quickly.

Yoshida also explains how he and the team decide which jobs to add to the long-running RPG series. “There are two main points we take into consideration,” he says. “The first is to have mechanics that are different from the existing ones so that you have a unique gaming experience. The second is that, as an MMORPG, it’s fun to play when you’re playing multiplayer content.”
