Diddy Says He Pays $5,000 A Day For Uncleared Song Sample – Rolling Stone

Diddy keeps paying Sting’s bills. The rapper, who sampled Sting’s 1983 hit “Every Breath You Take” on his 1997 single “I’ll Miss You,” revealed on Twitter that he pays the ex-cop $5,000 in royalties a day.

“I’ll Miss You” was a tribute to Notorious B.I.G. and became a huge hit for Diddy. However, the rapper only asked Sting’s permission to sample after the song was released. Diddy and Sting have previously addressed the situation, and in a 2018 interview with The Breakfast Club Sting said he receives $2,000 a day from Diddy.

A clip of the interview appeared on Twitter this week and Diddy replied, “Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @OfficialSting!”

There are no hard feelings between the two musicians. In a 2018 interview, Sting noted, “We’re really good friends now,” adding, “It was a beautiful version of that song.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone In 2003, Sting asserted that a sample not surveyed had netted him a lot of money (and probably much more in the years since).

“These guys take your shit, record it and deal with the legalities later,” Sting said. Elton John said to me, ‘You have to listen [“I’ll Be Missing You”]You will become a millionaire! I said, ‘I’m a millionaire!’ He said, ‘You’ll be a millionaire twice!’ I put two of my kids through college with the proceeds, and B. Diddy and I are still good friends.”
