A ticket purchased in Illinois has won the $1.28B Mega Millions jackpot

CHICAGO (AP) — A man from a Chicago suburb has won a $1.28 billion Mega Millions jackpot.

According to megamillions.comFriday night’s drawing included a jackpot-winning ticket that was purchased at a Speedway gas station and convenience store in Des Plaines.

Winning Numbers: 13-36-45-57-67, Mega Ball: 14.

“We are thrilled to witness one of the largest jackpot wins in Mega Millions history,” Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald, who currently serves as lead director for the Mega Millions Coalition, said in a statement on the lottery’s website. “We’re excited to find out who won, and we’ll be congratulating the winner soon!”

The jackpot is the third largest lottery prize in the country. Since April 15, it has grown so big that no one has matched the game’s chosen six numbers. 29 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner.

The $1.28 billion prize is for winners who choose an annual option to be awarded annually over 29 years. Most winners choose the cash option, with an estimated $747.2 million for Friday night’s drawing.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million.

According to the Illinois Lottery, the store that sold the ticket was also a big winner; Half a million dollars for selling tickets.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states as well as Washington, DC and the US Virgin Islands. The game is coordinated by state lotteries.
