From the very opening cinematic of Star Wars: Old Republic, which introduces you to the conflict between the Empire and the Republic after the sudden unexpected reemergence of the Sith, this game embodies all of the grandeur and imagination that made many of us fall in Star Wars a long, long time ago. Keep reading for our full review of the game.

For Empire players, the focus is on power, control, and anger. The Republic cinematic portrays a need to take back what's lost through planning and tenacity. The cinematics are spectacularly compelling and make me wish Blur, the creators, were contracted to do a feature-length film. Then after you've chosen your faction, another cinematic sets the tone of your mission in a very Find-Your-Fate style that is as engaging as it is entertaining. Next, you're kicked back to a menu screen to create your character. The creator is quite flexible, with a wide range of customization options unique to ea...

While many people often try to knock wrestling for being scripted and over the top, one thing you cannot deny is the sports entertainment value. Yes, it may not pack the realism you are used to viewing on a NFL Sunday, but it is pretty exciting. Thanks to the team of developers at Yukes and their publishing friends at THQ, you can partake in all of wrestlings excitement via WWE 12. The title is the sequel to WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011, and it comes with plenty of improvements that make it an obvious purchase for wrestling fans and anyone else looking to quench their thirst for some high-flying, hard-hitting action.

Before we get into the gameplay of WWE '12, let's focus on what truly makes wrestling the spectacle that it is: the wrestlers. To say that the roster in WWE '12 is extensive would be an understatement. The roster is made up of wrestlers of all shapes, sizes, ages, and even genders, so fans with differing preferences should be satisfied. You have superstar hotshots like John Cena, CM Punk, the Miz, and Randy Orton. Do you prefer wrestlers with a little more experience behind them? Go ahead and pick Ricky Steamboat, the Rock, or Stone Cold Steve Austin. Are you the type that likes watching...

I remember when I used to have arguments with the rest of my comic book geek friends about what would be the best mutant power to have: ruby optic blasts, metallic muscle or a ferocious healing ability. And as the years progressed, so did the roster of cool and exciting characters with even more amazing powers. However, if you were to ask me that question today, I would have to say that the special power that I would love to have is time travel. Why time travel, you may ask? It's simple: if I had the power of time travel, I could go back and do my best to try to smack some sense into the deve...

You've seen bank heists in the movies; now someone has built a video game around this premise. PayDay: The Heist lets you and up to three friends step into the role of criminals, planning and executing a bank robbery. Expect lots of onscreen violence along the way.

Heists stories have captivated American audiences since the earliest days of American civilization, ranging from the train robberies of the Wild West to the bullet-riddled bank heists of the Great Depression with the likes of John Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde. The folklore of these audacious capers continue to be captured and immortalized on the silver screen quite regularly in films like Point Break, Heat and even more recently in heist flicks such as The Town, Fast Five, Inside Man -- and who can forget the crafty robbery intro of 2008's The Dark Knight? So of course, it just stands to re...

Arkham City, the highly anticipated sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum, has a lot to live up to. Is it even possible to top a game that won rave reviews from both critics and fans? And how do you do it? The answers to these questions, you'll be pleased to hear, are quot;yes quot; and quot;keep reading. quot;

I would be willing to bet that if you stopped any man, woman or five-year-old child on the street right now, any one of them could tell you the recipe for a sequel. That recipe would, arguably, be the same regardless of the medium. Bigger, Stronger, Faster. Give audiences just enough of the old to as a sturdy foundation and just enough that's new to prevent boredom and apathy. It has been a recipe that's worked for franchises like The Transformers; however, it can also be a recipe for disaster, sinking or hindering a franchise just as quickly. In the last ten years alone, crowd-pleasers like ...

Any video game franchise that has gone on for 10 titles must have something going for it. Even so, after that many games, you risk running out of ideas and alienating your fan base. Ratchet amp; Clank: All 4 One adds some new twists to the old favorite that will keep you -- and your friends -- battling and laughing along.

I have to admit right off of the bat that I was not a huge Ratchet amp; Clank fan at the beginning. The character just seemed like an intergalactic Sonic the Hedgehog or a feline Earthworm Jim. Either way, I just wasn't interested at first -- until I played Ratchet amp; Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal. Any game willing to have that as their subtitle was going to get my vote. Lo and behold, it was actually a fun game with a fun and clever plot, light on its feet and chock full of engaging gameplay. Now, five or six titles later, does the tenth installment of the R amp;C franchise still have what it...

Are two Spider-Men better than one? Spider-Man: Edge of Time attempts to answer that question with not one, but two web-slinging superheroes working together across time to heal a major rift. Does it deliver the kind of experience and great play that fans of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man expect?

Our favorite friendly neighborhood vigilante swings back onto game shelves this month. Spider-Man: Edge of Time attempts to one-up its predecessor, Shattered Dimensions, as it introduces everybody's favorite storytelling gimmick, time travel. So you get two Spideys for the price of one. Sadly, though the game has some things going for it, it ultimately doesn't live up to Dimensions. If you're looking for the definitive Spider-Man experience, it seems you're holding out for the wrong hero. You play as both The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker, hero of present-day New York, and as Miguel O'Hara,...

I've used many controllers in my life, going all the way back to the NES Max, Atari Paddles, and the hand-destroying Centipede arcade ball (okay, so maybe those aren't all official names, but you know the ones I'm talking about). Remember that gigantic monstrosity for the original Nintendo with buttons the size of a silver dollar? How bout the Power Glove? Yes, I know: too many late nights watching Fred Savage in the Wizard. I also have seen many gamers point the figure at fault controllers, blaming them for their less than flawless victories. Sometimes, they are right. More often than not, th...

quot;Art quot; and quot;video game quot; are two terms that you never expect to hear in the same sentence. In fact, it almost sounds like an oxymoron. When both of these games were originally released nearly a decade ago, back in the Jurassic Era of PlayStation 2, they were so well received that some might argue that they almost single (or double) handedly created a whole renaissance of artful video game titles such as Uncharted and The Last Guardian. And the studio that developed them, Sony Computer Entertainment's Japan Studio became affectionately known as quot;Team Ico. quot; Ico and S...

The highly-anticipated release of the newest zombie game had a lot of people on the fence. In a world where zombie games have been the genesis of the RPG movement, they now clutter the playing field. Dead Island, Im happy to say will fit in with some of best of them quite nicely.

I say this not particularly because it is a polished gem, but because it's a buttload of fun. For those of you gamers living under a rock, Dead Island is a first person RPG game that features open world roaming. The focus is on melee combat, incorporating customizable weaponry, vehicular customization and blood- soaked combat. Many advance comments on the web have been comparing Dead Island to other Z-Day RPG games like Dead Rising (as you can create weapons) and Left 4 Dead (as the action is first-person and good for four players online), but once you trudge through the clunky opening sequen...

The horror ... the horror. I can remember when there were only two preeminent game console systems, Nintendo and Sega. The latter arguably had a better selection of games, ranging from Sonic the Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat 2, NBA Jam, and Earthworm Jim to even kid-friendly fare like Aladdin and The Lion King. Good times. Flash forward about twenty years, though, and it seems like Sega is struggling not to go the way of the dodo. Unfortunately, Rise of Nightmares is just yet another disappointment from the guys and gals of the once mighty Sega.

I'm just going to come right out and say it; I am not a fan of Kinect games. I love the concept, and on paper it sounds like a blast. However, I find these games to be extremely frustrating to play, because the mechanics are jerky and stiff (no pun intended) at times when precision and accuracy are needed. It reminds me very much of the Nintendo Power Glove. Those of us old enough to remember that know what I mean. The quot;No Strings Attached quot; approach was supposed to revolutionize the way games were played, and it ended up becoming the Laserdisc of its day. Someday I think that mo-cap ...

First person shooter (FPS) games have been a staple for gamers since the 8 and 16-bit days of the early nineties, with games like Wolfenstein 3-D and Doom. It's an excellent technique that put you literally in driver's seat of the action, giving us that quot;in the moment quot; experience that other games could not. Since those early days, the games have only gotten better, in terms of graphics and storytelling. It's brought us titles such as Half-Life, Quake, and how can anyone forget the unstoppable juggernaut that is Halo?
Machine guns, Marines and mayhem, oh my! The final and amazing installment of one of the most impressive third-person shooter games of the past decade strives to not only punctuate the franchise, but also delivers one of the most surprisingly poignant games of the year. A lot of films could take some lessons from Gears of War 3, a thoroughly satisfying bookend to the definitive shooter trilogy.

Gears of War 3 proves that a chapter doesn't have to suck just because it has a quot;3 quot; in the title. Yes, Spider-man, I'm talking to you. Gears of War 3 easily outperforms its predecessors in just about every way. The gameplay is sharper than Wolverine's claws, and the storytelling is far better than you might expect. For the uninitiated, Gears of War 3 picks up eighteen months after the end of Gears of War 2. Marcus Fenix and his band of merry muscled men (the quot;Gears quot;), the Marines of the fictional Earth-like world Sera, were forced to destroy the Jacinto plateau, the last ma...

For those of you not in the know (myself included), Warhammer is a game based off of a miniature table-top war-game; think Dungeons amp; Dragons, where genetically modified quot;super human quot; soldiers called Space Marines were created by an all-powerful Emperor in order to conquer the galaxy and defend mankind. The game itself has existed since the late 80s, comprised of those miniature figurines.
