Video card problems 8800GT

Hello,

My motherboard is MSI P55-GD65, Video card is GeForce 8800GT 512MB. Everything worked fine untill 2-days ago when I have switched on the computer and noticed some color signs on the monitor. After when starting BIOS, all symbols were mixed and system did not loaded at all.

Please suggest what is the problem, does it means that video card is damaged. If yes, what could be the source of the problem: Mainboard, driver or something else?

Thanks in advance,
Vardan

Welcome to DEV varman.
First question... is your card still under warranty ?
Have you installed new drivers recently ?
Have you moved your comp around lately ?
Have you overclocked it recently ?
Try cleaning out the fan...dust is the # 1 cause of comp failure.
Try taking it out and reinstalling.
If all else fails you can try to take off the heatsink to the vidcard (carefully) get some alchohal...clean off old paste and reapply some arctic silver 5 paste...or what ever you can get your hands on to see if that helps.
A few years ago I had a 7900GT that I had to reinstall the drivers at least once a month or I would get the same type of artifacting you describe.
Hope this helps

No, it is no under warranty.
I have installed latest drivers recently.

I would recommend that you clean the PCI-e slot, the slot where the graphics card sting, alcohol, and the pins on the graphics card as alcohol and then try if it works. if not replace the graphics card.

I have the same problem with my 9800gt, and in a few days it stops to work at all. It happened because of high temperature, try to use MSI Afterburner, it should help. Also try to read about it here. www pissedconsumer com consumer-reviews software
