Upgrading a built in 6100

Hello, im new here and would like to ask a question. I have a gateway and i opened it up today to check and see where my viodeo card is. geforce 6100.Well i couldnt find it so im guessing its built into my motherboard...is there ony way to upgrade it?Im just thinking of uninstalling the cards drivers and just installing the new card in the slot. would that work?

Your's is built into the mobo, I'm afraid. If you don't have any PCI-E slots, then you'll have to go with an old PCI video card. If that's the case, your best bet would be an X1300 PCI

It's kind of expensive though.

You'll have to disable the 6100 , shut down the computer, put in the new card, turn it back on and install the drivers from the CD that will come with any brand new card you buy. If you need more specific instructions just ask or look around on the internet, there are tons of guides for this.

The typical process is to remove the drivers for the integrated graphics within windows, reboot the system, enter the bios and set disable the on board graphics or set the initial display device to be "PCI Express" instead of "On Board", then save and exit. Power down the system, unplug the power cord (safety precaution), insert the new video card, plug in the power cord (if required), hook up the monitor, then turn the system on and once you get to windows install the new drivers, reboot, and then your all done.

As for what video card to choose, basically anything will be better than your on board 6100, even picking up a 6200 Turbo Cache would be a small improvement even though its based on the same core as your integrated graphics. If you list the rest of the specs of your computer (including the resolution you play your games at) and what games you like to play I'm sure we can suggest a card that would suit your needs and your budget.
