The typical process is to remove the drivers for the integrated graphics within windows, reboot the system, enter the bios and set disable the on board graphics or set the initial display device to be "PCI Express" instead of "On Board", then save and exit. Power down the system, unplug the power cord (safety precaution), insert the new video card, plug in the power cord (if required), hook up the monitor, then turn the system on and once you get to windows install the new drivers, reboot, and then your all done.
As for what video card to choose, basically anything will be better than your on board 6100, even picking up a 6200 Turbo Cache would be a small improvement even though its based on the same core as your integrated graphics. If you list the rest of the specs of your computer (including the resolution you play your games at) and what games you like to play I'm sure we can suggest a card that would suit your needs and your budget.
