Question Mixed Graphics Cards

Hi, I am currently using a Nvidia 8800gts 512mb with dual monitors. I would like to add a 3rd monitor and I have an extra, really old graphics card (like only 8mb of memory or something like that). If I were to add it into my system, what would happen? Would I be able to use 3 monitors and if so, what would happen to my graphics? Would Vista Aero still be functional?

Thanks for your help.

Well typically, no there is no problem in doing something like that but in your case there may be.

Vista has certain requirements for aero to run, and a video card with DX9, pixel shader 2.0, and 128mb of ram are listed as the requirements. So in your case if you want to add another video card you will need something like this. Once you find a card that fits vista's requirements, drop it in, install the drivers, and hope you dont have any trouble. I havnt had much experience with vista and multiple monitors, but there is a beta version of ultramon that runs with vista and its probably the number 1 tool for configuring and operating multiple monitors.

If you were running XP, assuming that old 8mb card would run the resolution you want to run on the monitor, then you wouldnt have a problem. Drop in the card, install the drivers, configure your monitor, and off you go.
