GTX 260 216 Core Problems

Hello,

I just built my new PC and I am having problems with the card. I have hooked up everything and my monitor is a blank. Saying to Input. The fan on my card is not coming on so I am thinking it is somehow not getting any power. I hooked it up to the 2 6-pin connectors. My PC specs are as follows

Rosewill RG630-2 PSU
AMD Phenom II x4 3.0 Ghz
M4A78 Plus Mobo
EVGA GeForce GTX 260 216 Core

Any help as to what I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

First question: Is this the first time you have powered up your new build or have you just upgraded the graphics card in a previously working system?

The fault finding will be very different for each situation.

This is the first time I have tried to power it up. I looked around on the internet all day yesterday trying to find an answer... and I think I might have. My RG630-2 is a 4 rail power supply... with 20 amps on each rail. This card takes 32 amps to run, and I read that you cannot get amps from 2 rails for one component. I don't know if there is some way to rewire the PSU somehow to do that but I would rather not. I think I am just going to send this PSU back and get a single rail.

I run 2 -EVGA 260GTX/Core 216's on a PC Power and Cooling 750 quad PSU. It has a 12volt DC single rail rated @ 60 amps

Both cards have run flawlessly since March 2009

I highly recommend the PC P&C 750 quad

There are many things that can prevent the display from coming on with a new build, the machine may not yet be anywhere near initialising the display, the first step is to try and get the machine into a known owrking state.

Here are some starting suggestions:
If you have access to a low end video card use that first just to make sure everything else is working first.

Take note of anything the machine does do at the moment when you apply power and press the power button.

Do the keyboard LED's flash
Does the MB make any beep sounds
Is the standby power LED on when you apply power.
Do the internal fans jitter a little when you apply power.
Do they start and stop when you press the power button.

Tell us anything you notice as they can be clues to where things are or are not working.

well if the rest of the system comes to life and the card does not output an image to your monitor, and the fan on the fan on teh card is not spinning, my assumption is that you have a defective card. If nothing in the system comes to life, no fans spin no LED indicators blink..nothing..then I'd first look at the power supply or the motherboard.

But as johnfrank notes, try to toss another video card in there instead of the GTX 260, or try the GTX 260 in another rig if you have access to one. This is the easiest way to determine if the card is bad or not
