If you use a component video splitter/amplifier the picture on the plasma screens is going to look like crap... just an FYI. I would search for a different solution. You need to find a VGA or DVI or HDMI signal splitter... which I don'T know if exists edit: well, i guess VGA splitters must exsist... they use them at electronics stores all the time. But then your dad would need to be sure to buy plasma tv's with VGA inputs.

SD signal on a 40 inch screen 1080 HD plasma? It'll sure be nice and fuzzy for text and graphic display which is what i'd guess you'd be doing with it at a bank. Maybe upscaled DVD signals wouldn't be so bad, but stepping down a computer display output to NTSC and then upscaling it again to 1080? they have some dvi-splitters online if you search it seems... http://www.nextag.com/dvi-splitter/search-html this might be more what you're looking for... but i don'T know about broadcasting to multiple sites with this... within one building and especially one room I would think so... http://www.hdstep.com/1x8-GEFEN-DVI-DISTRIBUTION-AMPLIFER-SPLITTER-p-17337.html if your dad is looking to do this in multiple bank offices, it might be best to just find a slim client that has DVI output (or build a small cheap computer with DVI output) for each office and just run the same slide show on all of them. If the slide show needs to be updated you could do that trough a terminal server program or something... sending an HDMI or DVI signal over a network connection (if its possible...) would be a major waste of bandwidth. Wireless HDMI uses 802.11n to broadcast at some amazing speeds... maybe you could pull that off if the offices were only across the street from each other... |

The inexpensive idea now is possibly loading slideshows on SD cards in all the TVs. The next idea is to try and get a bunch of cheap PCs to drive them all. The final idea, is I found a company that specializes in streaming content to an infinite number of plasmas with all sorts of configuration possibilities, but that might cost an absurd amount.

The SD card idea sounds like it would be tedious.

Updating it on all the TVs would be a pain... and every time the TV got turned off, you'd have to re-start the slideshow with the remote. Leave that up to the average bank teller and you'd end up having a big blue no-signal screen sitting there all day. I wonder how banks usually do this? |

Video Splitter
This is what my work uses for splitting the one player into 13 displays. The top one would be great for your application. They work great and there is no difference in quality between the tv hooked up to that with the signal split and the player just hooked up to the tv |

Just gotta hope that the plasma displays have component inputs... You'd hope that most higher end displays would have a full array of inputs, but they don't always... looks like theres a VGA splitter on that site too if you can find a plasma screen that has VGA inputs instead. Another thing your father might want to be careful about drumz0rz is that plasma displays are power hogs. If you're looking in the 36 to 42 inch range, LCD prices are comparable and the displays are much more efficient (and should have a longer life). Of course larger than 40 or 42 and you generally have to go with plasma... |
