Age Of Conan: Graphics Upgrade

Howdy guys, i'm new to the forums here and this is my first post.

I recently bought a Gateway GT5676 (I have huge regrets i've had alot of problems but she works decently)

And i love gaming, espiacially RPG's/MMO's.

Age of Conan is coming out in t-minus 6 days.

I'm getting my paycheck on Fri and intend to buy the game the day it comes out.

And will atempt to play on minimum graphics with my ATI RADEON HD3200

And save for a new Graphics Card (Price Range ATM: $150-$200)

Now the point of this thread, i'm in need of a new GPU but i'm so unsure of what ports i have, i'm pretty sure i have a PCI Express X16.

And i'm looking at a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT OC, but i'm unsure if my motherboard/power supply can run it. I'm sure it can, but i'm not in the mood to spend $200 to find out i cant run my new GPU, please give a computer noob some help! thanks!!

If the specs at This Link are right, then you'll need a new power supply to run the Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT, according to my link, the gateway only has a 300w Power supply, a 9600gt will usually recommend atleast a 400w one. But yes you are correct your MotherBoard does have a PCI-e Port. So in that area you are good.
I'll let someone else tell you what to do for the Power Supply.
From what I can gather your only option would be to get a power supply with more wattz.

Edit: If anyone can point me in the direction of a good enough 512mb graphics card that requires 300w max lmk.

I don't know how to tell how much they require.

Update: I couldn't see the sticker very well but it looked like it said '288 Watt Max' on the bottom of the power supply.

So, yea i should get a new power supply.

Will ANY 400+ watt power supply do?

I was thinking about a 500-600ish watt, i saw a 500 for about $25 on Newegg and thats pretty good considering my low budget.

Could someone please gimme some quick tips? Or even directly link me a power supply i can use? Thanks!

More important than the actual rated power output of the PSU, is the actual brand itself. A quality 300W PSU can easily put out more power and carry a more consistent current than even a cheap 480W PSU. There's a pretty comprehensive sticky RIGHT HERE in this forum for power supplies. You can find it here:

http://www.devhardware.com/forums/p...pply-94217.html

I suggest you read through that post thoroughly as the key things to consider are:

- Manufacturer
- +12V Current Rating
- Efficiency (look for 80%+)
- PSU Power Rating

The PSU is one of the most important parts of your PC. You don't have to dish out an arm and a leg for a good one, but NEVER cheap out or you WILL regret it.

Edit: Ok i messed with that calculator thing (although i'm unsure if i did it right but i calculated it with the 9600 GT in it) and it recommend 451w so would it be wise to get a 500w since he said add 35-50w? Which if you added 50w you'd be at 501 but i imagine 500w is about right, Is there any other things i need to watch out for?

(Note:I've read about the recommended brands, but i'm still unsure about what wattage to choose/what other things to look out for. Plz help! Thanks!) I have my eyes on a ' SILVERSTONE ST50F 500W ATX12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V cUL, CE, TUV, CCC, FCC'

I can't post a link because the forum wont let me but it's on Newegg.

*nod* I saw that but i really didn't understand much about it, but i'll give it another shot.

That's a quality power supply. It has 2 +12V rails at 18A each which should be plenty for the 9600GT. You can't go wrong with a Silverstone PSU as they make quality units.

Alright! Appreciate the help!

My parents are being well #%)(&#*($&@)(#&$@$.

And they're taking every cent i earn from i job so it'll probably be 2-3 weeks before i even start saving for the power supply/GPU.

Oh well, atleast i know everything i need before i have the money.

Thanks again!

Ive ran into many problems with these videocards for Age Of Conan... I just want the odyssey to come to an end... I just ordered a Stealth S120 ATI Radeon 9550 256 MB DDR AGP Graphics Card and was wondering if it was better than Nvidia's 7900 graphics card requirement.... If not then it is not compatible with the game and i need to cancel the impending shipment... PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!
