Overclocking hang-up?

Hi,

I've been running my 2 XFX 7600gt's at 610/820 for about two months with no problems whatsoever, until this morning that is.

I turn on my computer it boots to windows, except I do not see the welcome screen. After a few seconds the mouse arrow appears, then nothing.

I tried taking out one of the cards, switching them around, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Do you have another computer that you can hook the HDD up to?
This way you can eliminate the HDD as being the culprit.

After transferring the HDD to another computer the same thing occurred. So yeah, it seems to be a hard disk drive related problem. However, does this mean I will need to reinstall my OS to resolve it?

when you say that it does not respond, do you mean that you can not even reach the recovery console? What exactly happens?

-or-

when you run chkdsk that it say says something to the effect of "found unrecoverable files"?

If so, you should type fixboot then try the chk/dsk/R command.
It could be a bad boot sector.

"CHKDSK found and fixed one or more errors on the volume." The errors were fixed, but it still does not allow me to boot correctly into windows.

This doesn;t sound graphics related at all. more CPU related or memory. I have had this issue twice. once was because i pushed the HTT speed on my athlon 64 to far, and the other was trying 2.98ghz on a athlon 64 with 1.75v. graphics problem can usallly be solved by booting in safe mode first, and getting a few things removed, and restart.

Hi,

since this incident a full reinstall of windows was required. Going from Win XP to vista in the process. However, I will like to add that I windows XP just refused to boot. This means that I was unable to get into safe mode.

As for my memory and CPU they are all fine. During the process of trying to recover my computer from this unexpected behavior, I brought everything down to stock and that did not change a thing.

Cheers.
