Overclocking an fx5500

I was trying to overclock my card (evga nVidia fx5500 w/256MB and 128 bit running at 4x agp with stock cooling) using coolbits and the latest drivers (93.71). i told coolbits to find the optimal over clocking settings (the default is 270/400), and it told me that the optimal overclocking frequencies were 320/900. i hit test, and there were no artifacts or anything, everything was fine. maybe it's just me, but a 500MHz increase in the ram speed doesn't sound right. Are these the right frequencies, or is something screwed up? if not, does 305/525 sound good (these also work with no artifacts...)?

naw You should be fine as long the heat on the core is in check and You're not getting 2d/3d graphics error like a checker board or artifacts. Try gaming a few hours and if everything is fine no crashing or weird stuff You're ok...

hey,

it could be showing you the effective memory clock instead of the actual memory clock.

I know on my x800, effective is 2x actual. This varies, but I'm not sure what factors increase the multiplier. so if yours is 2x, then a 450 actual clock isn't an unbelievable overclock.

Yes.

It must be showing you the effective clock which will be twice the speed for DDR.

As far as your maximum overclock, just keep pushing the card until you see artifacts under gaming or benchmarks. Then back it off just a little until its 100% stable or artifact free.

I have exactly the same card (using 93.71) and i'm getting exactly the same results when i'm requiring detection of optimal speed. The maximum i can get is 330/925 with no problems after 2-3 hours of gaming, the settings are set to Max and i've no problems. Good work from Nvidia!

I think you mean 525 on the memory, correct?
