Your heat sink should work if you could mount it for the card. and Yes you would need a fan that would be big enough to fit onto the heatsink. OR you could get a vga cooler.

You could get the Artic Nv Scilencer RV1 since its compatable with your card. Or you could get Vantec "IceBerq 4" Copper All-In-One VGA Cooling Kit. The vantec one comes with ramsinks which will help overclocking the memory.

yes... you can OC either or both... i find most performance comes from overclocking the memory. which usually doesn't overclock as high

adjust your core speed up a little, test it... then adjust your memory... keep going like that until it starts to mess up... any changes to the screen is an error is bad... you will know it when you see it... then back down the last setting you changed until it works correctly. then once it's running right again, go adjust your other setting and see if it can go higher.
eventually doing this little dance you'll get your max mhz out of it.

adding a fan is always good... any extra cooling is helpful when overclocking

Either your bios is locked, which dosn't sound like the case or w/e program your using you didn't click to apply the settings on startup. If it's the former google a new bios for your card and flash it.

it depends on what card your using... i know with 9800 pros and XT's if you flash a pro to an XT it runs at the XT's clock speeds, but it also usually get a bump in FPS at the same clock speed in a few benchmark programs... i think nature in 3dmark 01 is one of them... but then you are considered to have a "slow 9800XT" since it cant keep up clock for clock with a real 9800XT...

and overclocking is just increasing the frequency so it runs higher FPS... but you wont see an increase in visual quality, or extra piplines like the 9800's and XT's and all of them...

there are a few cases where cards have the exact same PCB and chips on board... but are labeled as a slower model... a few 6800 models were like that... easily overclocked to GT speeds (due to having the same chips and PCB) or you could flash it and have a GT it's all the same in that case (if everything is identical)

BTW i really need to update this thread lol
