I have an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 256MB, and I overclocked it... but I tried to overclock it again and I get this message:
''The test failed to run at the selected clock frequencies. Please lower the frequencies and try again.''

OC Raeon9800 Pro to XT

I have heard rumors that indicate a person can OC the card just by loading the XT Catalyst Driver rather than the Pro driver. Is there any truth to that? If so, how much, and how would that affect the OC instructions (which are very well done) above?

Just a noob's Q. Thanks

I think you mean flash the xt bios. And yes, that will change it to a 9800xt, but there isn't really any point. You can just overclock to 9800 xt speeds, and get basically the same results. It dosn't work with all cards either, it has to be the same chipset or it'll screw it up of course too.

Question Question!

Alright, I didn't want to start a new thread so I'll post my question here. I want to overclock my abit geforce 4 ti4600 vid card, but I'm unsure of what to set the voltages/core/memory speed at. I have no real idea how to vmod, so I'll stick to the basics of OCing my card for now. Can someone help me with the settings, and tell me where to go?

all the principles are the same, download the correct settings changer, and up them bit by bit until you are either happy with the performance or begin to get artifacts.

all manufaturers say not to overclock... because you are stressing the components... but usually can handle a little more speed...some cards even perform as fast as higher model cards... 9700pro with a voltmod performs close to a 9800pro... so it's almost a free upgrade (you would have to upgrade your cooling to perform that fast)

thats why they say dont overclock
that and it can permanently damage your hardware

hi. with that knowledge, i am now planning to overclock my system which is

XP2500+ * (ASSEMBLED in MALAYSIA)
ASUS a7v8x-x VIAchipset (MADE in TAIWAN)
gf4 fx5200 128ddr 64 bit 533mhz 8x *
80 gigabyte seagate 7200 rpm
300 watts power supply
256ddr pc333

any comments/suggestion about heat dissipation?, wattage? because i can't purchase a new more suitable fan for my processor/VC in the immediate future, iam currently using a fan, like the ones being used on the walls. is this wise? my nerd pentium-user friends are all doing this kind of heat dissipATION ON THEIR systems....

well i'll just keep this on topic and talk about overclocking your videocard...

id hate to say this... but the FX5200 is a horrible card... but it can benifit from overclocking... just not very much
get the programs like in the guide and adjust your settings...

i imagine your card has stock cooling... you may want to rig up a fan to cool the heatsink on/around there... get rid of the heat

theres some free speed things you can do... laping your gpu..
taking 320grit sand paper and sanding down the core of the videocard until it's perfectly flat then sanding it with 400 and 600 and maybe even 1000grit... ofcourse you have to re-apply thermal paste

lapping allows your heatsink to make full conact with your GPU and pulls even more heat... usually allows you to overclock even higher and it's pretty much free

hit me up on a PM, AIM or MSN if you need any help
