CCC or ATITool

Well, I am VERY new to GPU overclocking and I'm trying to get the hang of it. I have a Sapphire x1900xt with factory heatsink/fan. I have the latest drivers and CCC version 6.12. I also downloaded ATT 0.26.

I first tried to OC using ATT's automated option, but that crashes my card in a matter of seconds. It cranks it up too high too fast. Once the core gets to about 690 I end up rebooting. So, I manually changed it to 661.5 (from stock of 621) and the me to 756 (from 720) and it runs stable.

I decided to try and use CCC overdrive utility and it clocked it up to 662 but didnt change anything on the memory.

I havent done anything with voltages yet because I dont really know what I'm doing, lol.

Any help/advice/direction would be great. I'm feeling pretty lost here!

The problem with CCC is that it just amends the 3D clock settings and not the 2D clocks. Where as ATI tools or ATI tray tools will OC both.

Let me see if I understand the difference. 2D clock settings are what is used when doing everything except running 3D apps (like most games), right? If that is the case, why would you want to raise the 2D settings?

Also, how come CCC doesnt change my mem setting?

Are my results typical, or are they very miniscule? Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

As far as options, there is no comparison. You can do dozens of things with ATI Tool you can't to with CCC. As far as stability, well I would have to give the nod to CCC. It is, after all, made by ATI. I have seen some issues with ATI Tool's auto-overclocking features...
