read all of this http://www.devhardware.com/forums/c...uide-97163.html
the vid card overclocking section & stabiliy section overclocking will be the most important parts for your problem but take the time to read all of it & you will know all you need to know about oc'ing |

to mvagusta - why give a link to cpu overclocking when we are talking about a graphics card???
Anywho, typical problem. best way to solve this is very recent. the other way i talked about before is tricky. Basically, don't use ati tray tools for this. use atitool beta 16 pre 8 or higher. Don'e disable ati hotkey poller, cause this new atitool gets around this for you! Now on this app you can adjust voltages and clocks. Don;t trust the scan for artifacts though, as it doesn;t work very well IMO. Happy overclocking!!!! - Paul |

the oc guide explains how to oc. it applies to all chips, cpus, gpus, chipsets, ram, etc. it's good to read all of it b4 overclocking anything. very dangerous for your parts to adjust voltages if you dont know certain things that are explained in the guide.

My screen randomly freezes once a day with ATI tool (VPU Recover takes care of it). So I uninstalled it because it was only doing it when it was running, and then I go to put it on default settings in CCC and it brought my card to like..
500mhz core 570mhz mem which is kind of funny because it's way off. the card default was 600-something and the mem was 999 I believe. I don't get what's wrong. Any clue anyone? Again my question is why are the default settings so low on CCC? Last edited by kencurran5 : January 7th, 2007 at 09:59 PM. |

Try Rivatuner 2.0 it is a good program to OC the card and go slow, read up on it first. If you use this start with a fresh driver after removing the old driver using remove programs.

I don't like CCC as it tends to be a bit cautious, which is fine if you want to look after your card, but not good for getting the MAX outta your card.
I use ATI tray tools over CCC or ATI tools as the Hardware/Overclocking options are much better for manual settings...especially for folding purposes. When you are not using 3D demanding apps your card will work in 2D mode which provides hideously low clocks...ATI tray tools disables the CCC service and allows a manual override to use your card at full potential for Folding and gaming. Let me know if you wanna try it and I can provide any help needed. Ice.
