Well, I decided that since I have already ran these cards as best I could under stock conditions for benching runs and that the prices have plummeted so quickly with the release of the 9800GTX and GX2 that there was only one thing to do....
volt mod them
Here is what I gathered for my "operation".
I could of used wire from a an IDE connector but opted to just suck it up and get a roll. While I did purchase super glue I did not end up using it as the handitack came in quite nice and I have quickly fell in love with it. While in the pic below it says to use a 1k pot for the vCore mod I decided to with a 500ohm as it was less jumpy when lowering resistance. The multimeter while low end ($12) gets the job done.
Not shown in the pic is a molex that I used for probing the actual voltage.
Here is the actual pic of the mod drawn out by

over at XS.
The following setup was used:
E8400 @4055MHz
Crucial Ballistix PC8500 2GB
OCZ 700w GameStream PSU
8800GTS 512 stock 670/972
Results

Quick pic of it in action...
The vCore was idling stock at 1.18v and was under load at 1.22v before any adjustments with the card tapping out at 801 core before boosting it up to 1.29v idle/1.35v load so it would run at 864. Idle temps on stock were at 28~29 degrees celsius and after mod were at 33~34 degrees celsius.
Memory peaked at 1005 stock with 1.96v and upping it to 2.05v yielded 1103. There were no fluctuations in voltage between idle and load.
While I feel that it can be pushed further I am going to wait till I get some sub zero cooling put on the card. I will volt mod the other one and run some SLI bench runs to see what I can get with the CPU under cold. These scores are promising as every one minus 3DMark01 are spot on with previous runs with the same CPU @5GHzbefore the mods. I did 05 runs but somehow forgot to save them:duh:
It sucks this board does not have PCIe 2.0, but I have other ones around that are. Don't know how much of a difference it would make for benches though.
I am sure I left some ifo out as I am kind of scattered brained atm as I just got an email from hwbot that they nixed one of my old scores b/c of lack of verification.(never was a pro user of PCmark05 so it only holds 5 entries)
