Ti-83 issue

my calculator wasnt starting so i went out and bought all new batteries (back-up included) and now i am having a strange problem. I know my calculator will turn on and off but i cant see anything on the screen and adjusting contrast (2nd+ up) does nothing.

I can tell the calculator boots because when i press on a dark line horizontally appears for about .5 seconds then disappears. it runs straight across the screen and seems to be only one row of pixels. then i try adjusting the contrast and nothing.

i then hit 2nd + on and the same row of black pixels appears again and then disappears. i know its not just trying to turn the calc on then shutting off because if i hit on and then wait and hit on again the black line doesnt appear again, only does so when i hit 2nd + on to shut it off.

I tried the whole taking batteries out, taking one out and holding on, putting battery back in and pressing on then adjusting contrast and nothing. im leaving the batteries out overnight now but it doesnt seem like thats the problem since i know my calc turns on and off

For the TI-83 Plus Family, TI-84 Plus Family:

Caution: The resets described in these troubleshooting steps will cause a loss of applications, programs and data. If at all possible please create a backup using TI Connect™ first.

1. Try a new set of AAA batteries.
2. Adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, use the down arrow.
3. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message.
4. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now". Follow the instructions for the TI-83 family or TI-84 Plus family to reinstall the calculator operating system.
5. Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.
