It's my understanding that all users have their "belt" level next to their name (it's a modified system that originally used karate belts). The only exception is if that user has won an award for the previous month. For example, you have "Top 3 Folder" in place of your rank. I have a "Top 5 Poster" image there as well as a "Top Spam Buster" image instead as well. If I wasn't one of the most active users last month, or top spam buster and had no other meritorious achievements last month, I would have my rank displayed instead. The rank is purely based on post count.
